Project Description:
|
| Application of granulated bitumen allows to achieve much better physical and mechanical parameters of bituminous concrete mixes, i.e., to increase slide and crack growth resistance and fatigue strength. Granulated bitumen insertion technology also allows solving a complex technical problem of storing and inserting of traditional polymer or rubber crumb modified road asphalt as far as the stages of heating and storing are excluded. In addition, its use allows manufacturing bituminous concrete sets limited by volume in any of the coating plants of the republic. Results of monitoring of test areas upbuilt with the use of granulated bitumen showed that owing to good elastic characteristics and high aging resistance of road coating (first of all, while repairing cracked concrete and bituminous concrete coatings) it is possible to do with thinner (i.e., profit-proved) layers than conventional upper layers. In average the layer will become thinner by 1.5cm. Decrease in cracking on coating surface, especially in cold weather, better deformation durability under high temperatures, better adhesive ability and dampproof characteristics as well as one and a half or twice as much operating life in comparison with conventional coatings create advantages of this technology.
Annual demand in bituminous concrete is 400000 tons. Average demand in rubber-bitumen binder is 7920 tons per year. This requires about 4000 tons per year of rubber crumbs, made of old tyres by fine granulation (fineness 0.5-1.5mm, hot grinding).
Project implementation will result in quality improvement and increase in operating life of road coating, old tyres will be recycled, i.e., there will be no need in their utilization. This will positively affect environment, and in addition create jobs.
It will provide import substitution of polymers and other bitumen modifiers, energy- and resource-saving, hundred-per-cent usage of domestic materials.

Background / history / overall programme / related or similar projects:
|
| According to the Programme “Roads of Belarus” one of the foreground directions of scientific-technical support of road activities for 2006-2015 is the development of technologies for material reuse in coatings which will allow reducing consumption of materials one half; development of combined technologies for arranging rugged layers of special hot chip mixes on basis of modified organic binders. This will allow reducing rut formation one half.
